Nupa Agarwal is an enthusiastic supporter of non-profits and community-oriented organizations. Nupa has served on the boards of Big Brothers Big Sisters Greater Richmond, Virginia League for Planned Parenthood and The READ Center. Currently, she serves as Vice Chair of the Board of Directors of the Economic Development Authority of the City of Richmond, DemBizRVA and serves on the Canvas Advisory Board of the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts (VMFA) and on the board of 1708 Gallery. She also serves as the Director of Government Relations for the Cultural Center of India, Virginia (CCIVA) and was co-founder and is a current board member of the American India Foundation (AIF) Richmond Chapter. She is also a supporter of Stop Child Abuse Now (SCAN) and Fit for Kids.
Education

Nupa earned a degree in Sociology from Randolph-Macon College where she also minored in Political Science and Latin Studies. In her last year of college, she attended the Semester at Sea Program where she spent a semester traveling to 15 countries around the world learning about their culture and political structure. She went on to law school and earned a Juris Doctorate from the Mississippi College School of Law. While attending law school, Nupa also received a Master of Science in Sociology from Mississippi College where she specialized in cultural anthropology.

Employment History

Following law school, Nupa spent three years as a law clerk at the Mississippi Court of Appeals under Chief Judge William G. Bridges before returning to Virginia to be closer to her family. Nupa worked as staff attorney for the Virginia Department of Labor and Industry where she worked on various labor and employment issues including wage and hour violations, workplace discrimination and harassment. She also worked as a Staff Attorney and Legislative Liaison at the Department of Correctional Education where she received her Senior Professional Human Resource Manager (SPHRM) certification and worked with the General Assembly on legislative issues. She was later an associate at Main Street Law firm specializing in bankruptcy before opening her own practice.

Family

Nupa Agarwal is married to attorney Amit Acharya who works for the Women, Infants and Children (WIC) Program at the Virginia Department of Health. They love exploring the city of Richmond and spending afternoons boating on the James with their friends and family. Nupa was born in India and at the age of two her parents left India to find better opportunities in the United States. She grew up in Colonial Heights, Virginia.
